About On Running
The success story
Olivier Bernhard, the co-founder of On, three-time duathlon world champion and multiple Ironman winner, dedicated himself to the idea of developing the perfect running shoe after his active competitive career. Together with a Swiss engineer, he worked on developing a shoe that was characterized by a cushioned landing and a powerful kick. This running sensation also convinced Caspar Coppetti and David Allemann to collaborate, so that On was founded in Zurich in 2010. The innovative spirit paid off, as the company was able to win the ISPO BrandNew Award with its first prototypes shortly after it was founded. Initial studies also showed that runners who wear On shoes have a significantly lower heart rate and lower blood lactate levels. The continuous development of the product range not only brought the company success in the years that followed, but also led to Runner's World magazine ranking On among the 20 most important running shoes in the UK, Germany and the USA in 2014. In 2016, On launches its own running apparel with Perfomance Running Gear. On thus offers runners a comprehensive complete package of equipment from head to toe.
In the following years, On further expands its shoe range with the Cloudflow and Cloud X, among others. In 2017, On Running sponsored the Refugee Team at the World Athletics Championships in London under the motto #WeAreAllOne. With specially developed performance running gear, On Running offers the refugee team the perfect equipment to successfully take part in the competition. In addition, On Running continues to grow, so that in 2017 On products are already available in over 50 countries worldwide. Today, On has subsidiaries in the USA, Brazil, Australia, Japan and its headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland.
In June 2019, Roger Federer, a famous personality, joined On Running. With his extensive experience in competitive sports, he is a great asset to the company in terms of product development and marketing. With THE ROGER, a shoe collection also bears the name of the famous tennis star. Today, On Running is one of the hottest shoe brands and will continue to win over runners in the future with its innovative ideas.
Social responsibility and sustainability
On Running products are manufactured in a socially responsible manner. In cooperation with the respective suppliers, On attaches great importance to ensuring that the standard requirements are strictly adhered to. The Swiss company also endeavors to go beyond these standard requirements. Sustainability has been an important part of On Running since its foundation. As a minimum, On therefore complies with the applicable industry regulations and the laws in force in the countries of production. On Running has taken another important step by switching to more sustainable packaging. With the new packaging design, 7 tons of black ink, 15 tons of plastic, 18 tons of paper and 160 tons of CO2 can be saved annually. In addition, On Running shoe packaging is now made of 100% recyclable material.

What is CloudTec®?
The small hollow chambers that characterize the unique sole of On Running shoes are called Clouds. The combination of these individual clouds creates an outsole that not only lowers the heart rate, but also reduces a runner's muscle fatigue. This technology is known as CloudTec®. The Clouds are compressed both horizontally and vertically with each stride. Every runner has their own running style, to which the flexible Cloud elements adapt perfectly. However, the result is always the same: Soft landings followed by an explosive push-off!
What does CloudTec® do for a runner?
Every runner has their own natural running style. In general, however, a distinction is made between heel runners, midfoot runners and forefoot runners. It is assumed that not only the speed and energy consumption of a runner depends on the running style, but also the risk of injury. On Running does not want to correct any running style with its shoes, but rather offer runners a shoe that adapts to each individual foot strike and promotes a healthy rolling motion. The cloud elements provide cushioning where most of the body's weight is when landing. On Running shoes therefore help to convert the forces generated on impact into a forward movement and direct less into the body.
What is the On Speedboard®?
The On Speedboard is a liquid-injected plate made from a thermoplastic polymer. It is located between the upper shoe and the CloudTec midsole. In some On shoe models, the Speedboard extends across the entire width of the running shoe. The cooperation between the Speedboard and the CloudTec® outsole creates the typical On Running feel. When the shoe hits the ground, the Speedboard flexes and absorbs the resulting energy. On push-off, however, the Speedboard releases the energy explosively, giving the runner the feeling of running on clouds.
